Missing persons and Amber Alerts in Panama

Overview

In the Panama West province, authorities reported that 90% of Amber Alerts are attributed to adolescents running away from home, often due to disciplinary, emotional, or unresolved family conflicts. Commissioner Sumilexi Miller of the Early Activation Office noted that while most cases involve runaways, other causes include parental abduction and lost minors.

In response, the Ministry of Public Security is working to establish a technical committee with various institutions, such as the Ministry of Women, to strengthen parental roles and address the social and economic needs of children.

Separately, the Attorney General's Office has issued appeals for public assistance to locate specific missing individuals, including a 25-year-old man from San Miguelito and two 16-year-old adolescents who disappeared from different shelters.
