Mississippi State Bulldogs football season

The Mississippi State Bulldogs experienced mixed results during their SEC football campaign. In late September, the team secured a 31-24 victory against Mizzou in Starkville, overcoming a mid-game deficit with a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter. During that matchup, Kamario Taylor threw for 360 yards.

However, in late October, the Bulldogs suffered a 23-15 road loss to the Oklahoma Sooners in Starkville. The game was significantly impacted when star sophomore quarterback Kamario Taylor exited in the first quarter after aggravating a recurring right leg injury. Backup quarterback Parker ‘Billy’ Puckett took over, but the offense struggled to maintain momentum against an Oklahoma defense that recorded four sacks and limited Mississippi State to 126 total yards in the first half.

While running back Fluff Bothwell led the team with 111 rushing yards, Puckett finished with 158 passing yards and one interception. Despite a late scoring effort involving trick plays, a Mississippi State fumble at the Oklahoma 3-yard line prevented a comeback. Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer led the Sooners to victory, completing 22 of 29 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns. The win marked the first meeting between the two programs.
