Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled to Mysuru, Karnataka, on 1 August 2026 to inaugurate the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre, popularly known as the Viveka Memorial, at the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama. The 81,000‑sq‑ft hub commemorates Swami Vivekananda’s 1892 stay and includes a bronze statue, meditation hall, interactive gallery, 4‑D experience centre, exhibition hall, a 700‑seat amphitheatre, classrooms, a library and facilities for competitive‑exam preparation. Officials expect it to serve over 10,000 students and youth from urban and rural areas, offering lectures, workshops and short‑term courses on value‑based education and leadership. Modi arrived via Mandakalli Airport, transferred by helicopter, and proceeded to the Ashrama accompanied by Karnataka Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar and Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, among other dignitaries. After prayers, he laid a foundation stone for a youth‑service project and addressed a crowd of several thousand residents and ~~students. During the ceremony Modi also released Kannada translations of the Valmiki Ramayana and the Stories of Vedanta Monks, saying the books would bring India’s spiritual and literary heritage closer to Kannada readers, especially the youth. BJP Youth Wing national president Tejasvi Surya hailed the event as historic for Karnataka, and Modi posted photos on X praising the Ashrama’s social‑service role. Security involved more than 1,000 police personnel, road closures and traffic restrictions, while the city upgraded procession routes with repainted footpaths, new tiled walkways, stainless‑steel dustbins, refreshed road markings, repaired potholes and murals of Mysore Palace.
