Moldova diesel price and taxation developments

Overview

In early October 2026, discussions regarding diesel costs and taxation in Moldova emerged from two different sectors. Serghei Ivanov, President of the Committee on Agriculture and Food Industry, called for diesel tax relief for farmers. He argued that agricultural producers face costs at least 302 lei higher per hectare than European counterparts, requesting a mechanism to allow tax-free diesel purchases for various agricultural sectors.

Concurrently, the National Agency for Auto Transport announced a decrease in interregional passenger road transport tariffs. The provisional cap was set at 1.17 lei per kilometer, down from 1.19 lei per kilometer. This reduction was attributed to a decrease in average diesel prices, which fell to 35.57 lei per liter during the first week of October.
