Moldova is conducting various commemorative activities to mark the 35th anniversary of its independence. The Parliament launched the ‘Sunt Generația Moldova 35’ campaign, which encourages citizens born in 1991 to share messages regarding the meaning of the country. Selected participants are scheduled to attend a parliamentary plenary session on 26 August. This initiative is part of the broader ‘Independența care ne unește. Moldova 35’ national programme, which includes cultural festivals, a military parade, and the release of commemorative coins and stamps. In conjunction with these celebrations, Moldova 1 has been broadcasting historical milestones, such milestones as part of its ‘35 Years of Independence’ editorial campaign. Recent broadcasts have highlighted the political shifts of 2005, including the deepening reconfirmation of relations with Communist Party rule and the European Union, re-election of Vladimir Voronin. This period also saw the signing of the Moldova-EU Action Plan, the commencement of the EU Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM), and the transition of Transnistrian conflict negotiations to the 5+2 format. Further retrospectives have focused on the early 2010s, noting the 2011 governance by the Alliance for European Integration and a visit from US Vice President Joe Biden. These years included the launch of negotiations for the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) and the election of Nicolae Timofti as head of state in 2012. Reflections on sovereignty have also noted constitutional provisions regarding the non-admission of foreign military troops on Moldovan territory.
