Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has engaged in a series of diplomatic meetings aimed at strengthening international partnerships and economic cooperation. In discussions with the World Bank, officials focused on future development priorities, including infrastructure, energy resilience, digitalization, and agriculture. The World Bank currently manages a portfolio of 14 operations in Moldova valued at 735.4 million euros, and work has begun on a framework for cooperation following the 2023–2027 period. Simultaneously, Moldova is seeking to expand its bilateral ties with Japan and Kazakhstan. Meetings with the Japanese Ambassador centered on attracting investment and expanding trade, building on historical assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Discussions with the Ambassador of Kazakhstan focused on leveraging commercial potential and developing new joint projects. Building on these efforts, Prime Minister Tofan met with Japanese Ambassador Kazuyuki Takeuchi to further discuss expanding trade and attracting Japanese investment. The discussions highlighted the impact of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which has provided over $140 million to modernize Moldova’s medical systems, agriculture, energy resilience, and public institutions. Future cooperation may extend to agricultural projects and railway infrastructure. During a trip to Istanbul, Tofan also met with Turkish business representatives to discuss attracting new investments to Moldova. During this visit, he participated in a symbolic swim across the Bosphorus Strait, noting that the crossing from Asia to Europe served as a parallel to Moldova’s own European integration path.
