Moldova has emerged as the fastest-growing tourism destination in Europe, recording a 25% surge in international arrivals according to the UN Tourism World Tourism Barometer. This growth follows a broader trend in Central and Eastern Europe, which saw a 4% increase in travelers during the first half of 2026. Building on this momentum, the National Association for Tourism in Moldova (ANTRIM) introduced a new strategic concept during Moldova Business Week 2026. The strategy specifically targets the Swiss market, aiming to leverage the high purchasing power and frequent travel habits of Swiss residents. The promotion plan intends to capitalize on Moldova’s cultural and gastronomic offerings, utilizing new direct flights to attract Swiss travelers interested in nature-oriented trips and city breaks. Recent data from September 2026 indicates continued upward momentum in Moldovan aviation, with passenger traffic rising by 17.9% compared to the same month in the previous year. A total of 761,886 passengers were recorded during this period. While Antalya remains the top preferred destination for Moldovan travelers, attracting 119,366 people, the region has simultaneously seen a notable decline in visitors from Romania, which fell by 16.1% between January and September 2026.
