Montenegrin football league competition
Overview
Budućnost’s early momentum in the Montenegrin championship has stalled. Following an initial 1-0 victory over Sutjeska in the Nikšić derby, the club has struggled, securing only one win in their first four matches.
In the fourth round, Mornar secured a 2-1 victory against Budućnost at Topolica, a result that allowed Mornar to take the top position in the Meridianbet Prva CFL standings. Following the match, Mornar first assistant coach Simo Medigović described the win as a recovery for the team after a difficult period, which included an exit from the Conference League qualifiers against Eskaldes. Medigović highlighted the character of the squad and noted that Topolica remains a difficult venue for visiting clubs.
Other recent league fixtures included 0-0 draws between Jezero and Sutjeska, as well as Mladost and Petrovac. Under new coach Denis Ćorić, Sutjeska earned their first point of the season during the match against Jezero. Building on their momentum from the victory against Budućnost, second-place Mornar prepared for a derby against Petrovac, with player Velimir Ljutica calling for fan support.
Budućnost has since broken a five-match winless streak with a 3-0 victory over Jezero. Ilja Serikov scored in the 9th minute, followed by two goals from Danilo Vukanić in the 59th and 77th minutes. The match also featured 16-year-old Aleksa Caušević, who became the youngest debutant in the Montenegrin league.
Other recent results include Sutjeska defeating Mornar 1-0, Bokelj moving into third place after a 2-1 win against Otrant, and Mladost securing a 1-0 away win against Arsenal. Dečić and Petrovac played to a 1-1 draw.
