In late July 2026 the Montenegro Esports Federation led a delegation to Dubai on a business mission organised by the DMCC Gaming Center, meeting dozens of local firms and institutions on cooperation in gaming, blockchain, AI and the digital economy. That same week On 29 July 2026 Montenegro’s phygital basketball squad Dangerous Meridianbet opened the Games of the Future 2026 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The opening ceremony at Barys Arena was addressed by President Kassym‑Jomart Tokayev and welcomed attended by the presidents of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, welcoming more than 800 athletes and gamers from over 50 nations. The 12‑day event, presented by Samruk‑Kazyna, featured eight phygital disciplines—including Phygital Basketball, PUBG Battle Royale and Dota 2—with a total combined prize pool exceeding US$4 million. International delegations attended, notably the presidents of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, alongside ministers, delegations, technology executives and investors. A investors gathered at a concurrent Phygital Sport Summit was held at in the International Center of Artificial Intelligence “Alem AI,” where Danijel Merklij, general director of Phygital International, described the Games as a celebration of human ambition and a platform for innovation. Montenegro’s team secured a 37‑31 victory over China’s Handsome MDMX in the inaugural phygital basketball match, reinforcing the nation’s emerging profile in both traditional esports and the new hybrid sport format.
