Overview

Following the September 23, 2026, legislative elections, King Mohammed VI appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as Morocco’s first female Head of Government. El Mansouri, a 50-year-old lawyer and former Minister of Housing and Mayor of Marrakech, leads the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), which secured 97 of the 395 seats in the House of Representatives.

The election was characterized by a voter turnout of approximately 38%, the lowest in nearly two decades, reflecting growing public skepticism toward the political class. El Mansouri’s administration faces significant socio-economic hurdles, including high living costs, inflation, unemployment, and water scarcity. Her government is also tasked with overseeing major infrastructure preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
