On 8 July 2026, Morocco’s central bank, Bank Al‑Maghrib, posted official dirham rates, listing the euro between 10.1616 – 11.8094 and the US dollar between 8.8926 – 10.3346. On the same day, Algeria’s informal Square Port‑Saïd market quoted the euro at 274–276 dinars and the US dollar at 238.5–241 dinars, while official rates remained at 152.29 dinars per euro and 132.82 per dollar. By late July, Algeria’s black-market euro price fell sharply to 27,500 dinars per 100 € on 28 July, a decline attributed to an oversupply of euros and tighter foreign-currency controls announced by the Algerian Ministry of Finance. During this same period, Bank Al‑Maghrib adjusted its official rates for 29 July, setting the euro buying price at 10.1512 dirhams and the selling price at 11.7974 dirhams. As of 15 August 2026, the euro showed a modest rise on the Algerian parallel market, trading at 27,550 dinars for sale and 27,300 dinars for purchase. By 23 August 2026, the euro continued to rise at the Square Port‑Saïd informal exchange, reaching a selling rate of 276.50 dinars, while the US dollar declined to 236.50 dinars due to bearish international financial pressures and the conclusion of the summer holiday season. By 5 September 2026, the euro continued its upward trend on the Algerian parallel market, with 100 euros trading at 27,700 dinars for sale and 27,400 dinars for purchase. This increase is attributed to a potential reduction in supply following the end of the summer holiday season. On 6 September 2026, the Bank of Algeria identified narrowing the gap between the official dinar exchange rate and parallel market rates as a priority for incoming governor Mohand Bourai. Addressing this disparity is noted as a complex task influenced by inflation, foreign exchange reserves, the balance of payments, and trade levels.
