In Morocco, agricultural officials have projected record date production for the 2026-2027 season. Minister of Agriculture Khalid Hatimy announced that production is expected to reach approximately 177,000 to 180,000 tonnes, representing an 11 percent increase from the previous year. This growth is attributed to improved climatic conditions and the expansion of new planting zones. To address a national demand of 220,000 to 250,000 tonnes, the Moroccan government is utilizing its ‘Green Generation 2020-2030’ strategy, which aims to reach 300,000 tonnes of annual production by 2030. The sector remains a vital economic driver, supporting nearly 2 million citizens and contributing over 3 billion dirhams in value. Morocco is further advancing this strategy by restructuring its agroindustrial framework through scientific research and technological innovation. In coordination with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, officials in Rabat are focusing on preserving genetic resources, ensuring livestock sustainability, and digitalizing regional markets. To combat food inflation and supply chain inefficiencies, the government is establishing seasonal oversight plans to align domestic market needs with production and export commitments. Biotechnology is also being leveraged to modernize production. In Errachidia, the PalmINRA laboratory is using in vitro multiplication to produce healthy, disease-free date palm strains, such as the Mejhoul variety, to support oasis ecosystems. These initiatives occur as the country manages structural cost pressures and climate shifts. In Algeria, agricultural services in the Sidi Bel-Abbès province expect cereal production to exceed two million quintals. This forecast is quintals, supported by the expansion of expanded cultivation areas for barley, soft wheat, and durum wheat, as well as the use of climate-resistant crop varieties.
