King Mohammed VI’s Throne Day address on July 27, 2026 reaffirmed Morocco’s political stability and the 4.9 % growth recorded in 2025, with expectations of the same or a higher rate in 2026. The speech highlighted a bumper agricultural season, record tourism of nearly 20 million visitors, and continued industrial diversification: roughly one million vehicles are now produced annually and automotive and aerospace exports exceed 40 % of total trade. Renewable‑energy initiatives were reiterated, including green‑hydrogen production, a nascent electric‑battery value chain and a budding battery‑cell sector. Defence, cyber‑security and clean‑energy capabilities were also underscored. The King announced a royal clemency for 1,788 individuals – 1,679 detainees and 109 already free – commuting one death sentence to life imprisonment and converting one life sentence to a fixed term. He framed the clemency as part of a broader strategy of national sovereignty, industrial self‑sufficiency and social cohesion, and called for expanded domestic financing to bolster small‑ and medium‑sized enterprises and large‑scale projects. Celebrations continued in M’diq (30 July) and Tetouan (31 July) with Prince‑Heir Moulay Hassan, and a follow‑up address on July 29 reinforced agriculture, food, pharmaceutical and clean‑energy self‑sufficiency goals. During the festivities, the United States issued a statement reaffirming its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara, underscoring the strong bilateral partnership.
