Morocco’s U17 national football team is preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying tournament, which will be held in Tunisia this November. Following a draw by the Union of North African Football Associations (UNAF), Morocco has been placed in a group alongside Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya. Only the top two teams from the group will qualify for the AFCON 2027 finals. Morocco is scheduled to open its campaign against Algeria, with subsequent matches against Egypt and Tunisia, before finishing the group stage against Libya. Matches are set to take place at the Olympic Stadium of Sousse and the Mustapha Ben Jannet Stadium in Monastir. The team enters this qualifying phase following a successful 2026 regional campaign in which they won the UNAF U17 title and secured qualification for the U17 World Cup in Qatar. While the squad previously defeated Algeria 3-0 during the 2026 tournament, the upcoming qualifiers will feature new squads under the direction of coach Ahmed El Kantari. Amidst these preparations, Hervé Renard, the former Morocco manager and current Ivory Coast coach, has praised the nation’s footballing infrastructure. Speaking on the program ‘African Talents’, Renard identified Morocco as the “premier African football nation on the global stage,” citing their organizational system as a model for the continent.
