A series of vandalism attacks targeting mosques in Belgium has prompted investigations and calls for increased security for religious sites. In Schelle, the Tawfieq mosque was vandalized with swastikas, hateful messages, and dog feces on its doors and windows. Mohamed Amin Chaib, chairman of Muslim Rights Watch Belgium, described the incident as ‘Muslim hatred in its purest form.’ Following this, the El Mouahidine mosque in Brussels was also targeted with swastika graffiti on its facade. Brussels Mayor Philippe Close condemned the act as an ‘extremely grave instance of Islamophobia.’ Local officials visited In a subsequent development, authorities launched an investigation after a swastika was spray-painted on the site to express solidarity, while police shutters of the historic El Mouahidine Mosque in the Laeken district. Interior Minister Bernard Quintin stated that attacking a mosque targets the ‘very faith and identity of Muslim citizens.’ The mosque’s president, Mohamed Karroun, expressed deep shock and called for increased protection for places of worship. Police continue to review analyze surveillance footage to identify the perpetrators.
