The MOTELX International Horror Film Festival has launched its 20th anniversary edition in Lisbon. Running from September 3 to September 13, this milestone event features its largest program to date, consisting of over 170 films from more than 40 countries across more than 145 sessions. The festival is hosted at Cinema São Jorge and the Cinemateca Portuguesa. Programming highlights include a tribute to Italian director Sergio Martino, a celebration of Roger Corman’s centenary, and the presentation of the Noémia Delgado Award to filmmaker Solveig Nordlund. The lineup also features various expanded 11-day schedule includes international competitions for the Méliès d’Argent award for Best European Feature Film. Contenders for the award include Carlos Conceição’s ‘BodyHackers’ and domestic productions, various films starring actors such as Gael García Bernal and Monica Bellucci. Originally founded from a private film club, the Portuguese-Italian co-production ‘BodyHackers’. festival has grown significantly over two decades. While traditional midnight screenings have experienced shifts in attendance patterns, the event continues to showcase a diverse range of global genre milestones, from classic horror to contemporary international productions.
