During the summer holiday period of July and August, the Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) recorded 281 interventions. While the total number of interventions was consistent with the previous year, fatalities increased significantly, with sixteen deaths reported—nine more than the same period the prior year. The High Tatras experienced the highest volume of interventions, followed by Veľká Fatra and Nízke Tatry. Most incidents involved light to moderate injuries, though 64 individuals required assistance in life-threatening conditions. Tourists and cyclists accounted for the majority of those needing rescue. In the High Tatras, Polish nationals made up 48 percent of the 99 people rescued, and notably, “eight of the eight holiday fatalities in the High Tatras were Polish citizens.” In October, separate rescue operations resulted in further fatalities. In the Malá Fatra mountains, a 34-year-old Slovak man died from head injuries after falling approximately 100 meters down a ravine during a period of heavy snow, fog, and strong winds. Additionally, in the Low Tatras, rescuers located the body of a 73-year-old Czech man near Poľana peak, who had been missing since October 13. Later in October, rescuers in the High Tatras responded to the first avalanche of the season near Dlhý ples. After two tourists deviated from a marked trail in Krčmár Gorge, a small avalanche occurred. An 18-year-old Czech man sustained injuries to his thigh and pelvis from falling onto rocky terrain. Due to poor weather, rescuers utilized ground teams to transport the man via stretcher to Sliezsky dom.
