In early August 2026, Mexico’s Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) highlighted its limited presence in state legislatures, noting concentration in a few states and a recent surge in Veracruz where it won dozens of municipal councils. The party announced an internal reorganization aimed at expanding its structure across all federative entities to maintain 2025 gains and become a competitive contender for the 2027 state elections and the 2030 presidential race. The following day, MC shifted from internal restructuring to an external challenge, filing formal complaints with electoral authorities in Sinaloa and Tabasco. The complaints accuse the ruling Morena party of engaging in prohibited pre‑campaign activities, including rallies and door‑to‑door visits, and question the funding sources for those actions. In Sinaloa, state coordinator Sergio “Pío” Esquer filed a complaint with the Instituto Electoral del Estado de Sinaloa (IEES), documenting rallies, assemblies, and public events. In Tabasco, the party lodged a separate complaint with the Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE) against Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, accusing him of pro‑selitist exercises in several plazas following his resignation from Morena to seek a 2027 congressional seat. Expanding its organizational efforts, MC began activating its machinery in Quintana Roo by organizing a Provisional Operating Commission led by Joaquín González Castro. National coordinator Jorge Álvarez Máynez furthered the expansion strategy by announcing intentions to compete for the governorship of Querétaro and the state capital in 2027, positioning the party as a “three-way election” alternative.
