The Mozambique Tax Authority (AT) has set a net tax revenue target of 427.7 billion meticais for 2027. To reach this goal, AT President Aníbal Mbalango has prioritized digital transformation, expanded audits in high-risk sectors like mining and natural resources, and enhanced staff capacity to reduce the fiscal gap. In the first nine months of 2026, the AT reported an 84% increase in revenue from megaprojects, totaling 14,054.12 million meticais. This growth was primarily driven by the oil and gas sector, which contributed 11,486.35 million meticais, and the mining sector, which accounted for 2,567.77 million meticais. Supported by consultants from the Efficient Taxation for Inclusive Development (TEDI) project and the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), audits and inspections identified approximately 10,213,325,769.22 meticais in disputed amounts. Additionally, three international ruby auctions held between January and July 2026 generated 83.73 million USD in total revenue. In the private sector, Cervejas de Moçambique (CDM) reported a 51.7% increase in 2025 profits, totaling approximately 2.6 billion meticais. While the company saw significant growth in turnover and shareholder dividends, it identified operational risks stemming from foreign currency shortages and exchange rate fluctuations affecting the importation of raw materials.
