Mozilla has released successive updates to its Firefox browser, focusing on stability, security, and the integration of artificial intelligence. In version 153, Mozilla addressed various stability issues, including Windows start-up crashes and audio-mute problems. For iOS users in the United States, the update introduced an on-device voice-based AI assistant that utilizes Apple’s speech-recognition technology without sending raw audio or browsing data to external servers. Following this, version 154 introduced enhanced security measures, specifically requiring websites to obtain permission before establishing WebSocket connections to local network devices. This release also expanded AI capabilities by adding cloud-based Large Language Model (LLM) features for AI-powered tab grouping in Smart Window mode, alongside improved full-page translation and new management tools for AI settings in the address bar. In a simultaneous release, Mozilla also issued version 154.0 for its Thunderbird email client. This update provides macOS users with native file previews and expands Microsoft 365 support via Microsoft Graph. Windows users received a new optional system tray mode. Thunderbird also addressed technical instabilities, such as duplicate IMAP notifications, and improved file management through drag-and-drop support for RFC822 attachments.
