MRT Jakarta transit-oriented development TOD expansion and investment efforts

PT MRT Jakarta is expanding its business strategy through Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and placemaking initiatives. Following the revitalization of the Blok M area, the company intends to extend these urban development concepts to the Kota Tua and Glodok districts. The Kota Tua revitalization aims to create high-quality public spaces that integrate retail and community activities while preserving historical heritage. These projects are linked to the completion of the MRT Bundaran HI-Kota line, expected by late 2029. To support these developments, MRT Jakarta is actively seeking Southeast Asian investment, specifically targeting capital from Singapore. During the TOD Investment Forum 2026 2026, held at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore in collaboration with the Surbana Jurong Group and the Indonesia Investment Promotion Centre (IIPC) Singapore, the company presented several key projects for development, including projects. These include the Kali Besar Heritage area, Ultimate Development Blok M, Blok M developments, Interchange, XGL Mixed Use, and the Lebak Bulus Interchange. Officials Interchange Bus Terminal and Park and Ride. M. Iqbal Bimo Arifianto, Head of Property Management at MRT Jakarta, noted that international investors are expected to provide both funding and a “transfer of knowledge regarding urban density and connectivity” to assist in implementing integrated urban development models. In October 2026, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government announced the upcoming groundbreaking for the Blok M Hub redevelopment. Governor Pramono Anung stated that this collaboration between PT MRT Jakarta and professional developers will feature two new towers for residential apartments, hotels, shopping malls, and public spaces. This project is intended to serve as a model for future TOD zones in areas such as Harmoni, Pasar Baru, Glodok Pecinan, Kota Tua, Kelapa Gading, and Manggarai.
