Munich technology and investment activity

Overview

The economic and technological landscape in the Munich region is seeing increased activity through cross-border investment initiatives and local industrial growth.

To strengthen ties with its neighbor, the French Grand Est region established the ‘Ostfrankreich Expansion Desk’ in Munich. This German-language office is designed to attract German investment into sectors such as cleantech, life sciences, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. Additionally, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft utilized the Bits & Pretzels festival in Munich to showcase six research-based deep-tech startups focused on industrial AI and digital construction.

Local development in Munich has continued with the availability of commercial plots at the Freiham Technology Park for high-tech industries like biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. The regional startup ecosystem also saw recognition at the Bits & Pretzels conference, where Naxon Robotics received the ‘Munich Startup Special Prize’ for its work in mobile robot and drone swarms for industrial inspections.
