Haryanvi singer, actor, and YouTuber Ankit Baliyan was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, on August 26, 2026. CCTV footage showed approximately four attackers on motorcycles firing between 12 and 25 rounds as Baliyan exited a gym. A postmortem revealed nine gunshot wounds. A social media post allegedly linked to the Gogi gang claimed responsibility, suggesting the murder was retaliation for a song Baliyan released regarding the 2021 death of gangster Jitendra Gogi. Following investigations by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force, police engaged in an encounter with suspects on August 29. Two individuals, identified as Sumit, 24, and Mohit, 22, were killed during the confrontation after they reportedly opened fire on a police vehicle during a checking operation near an Indian Gas warehouse on Kairana Road. Both suspects were residents of Sonipat, Haryana, and carried a reward of Rs 50,000 for their capture. Two police constables were injured in the exchange. Authorities recovered several firearms and ammunition at the scene. Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna stated that the investigation would extend beyond the shooters to dismantle the entire criminal network responsible for the conspiracy. While Baliyan’s wife expressed relief and thanked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the police action, his father, Satbir Singh, described the encounter as ‘half justice,’ demanding the apprehension of all remaining accomplices. Political reactions have also emerged, with Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya defending the police action, while Samajwadi Party MP Avadhesh Prasad has called for a high-level inquiry into the circumstances of the encounter. The family continues to call for the arrest of two remaining suspects, Aryan and Satyam, who are currently absconding.
