Music festivals and performances in the Balkans
Overview
Music events and festivals have been announced for the Balkan region in October 2026. In North Macedonia, the ‘BALKAN AFFAIRS – The fragile art of living together’ project is scheduled for October 11 at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle. Presented by the German ensemble Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, the project features seven composers from the successor states of the former Yugoslavia. The works utilize vocals, electronics, and video to explore themes such as collective memory, nationalism, and the consequences of war. The 45th Skopje Jazz Festival runs from October 15 to 18 at the National Opera and Ballet. The edition features a record number of performers from 13 countries, focusing on contemporary, experimental, and investigative jazz. The program includes eight main stage concerts and three midnight sessions on a special small stage. Opening night features Slovenian percussionist Zlatko Kaučič with ‘Bravery of the Brave’, Leonhard Skorupa with the New Quispel Octet, and a midnight performance by Pasquale Mira and Hamid Drake. The ‘Punkt International’ program also features artists from Norway and Iceland. Additionally, singer Bojana Skenderovski has scheduled a concert at the Bitola Cultural Center on October 30. In Serbia, the 58th Belgrade Music Festival (Bemus) will run from October 17 to 30, featuring symphonic, operatic, and chamber music from various international orchestras and soloists. New performances scheduled for late October include a jubilee concert in North Macedonia on October 28 at the National Opera and Ballet. The National Jazz Orchestra will honor the 40-year career of trombonist, arranger, and composer Sashko Nikolovski, featuring his original compositions and works by other Macedonian authors.
