Klaipėda is preparing for several major musical events in October. The city will host the 23rd edition of the ‘Permainų muzika’ (Changing Music) festival from October 9–17. Under the leadership of Vykintas Baltakas, the festival intends to move beyond traditional concert halls into urban spaces and local communities. Simultaneously, the Klaipėda State Musical Theatre will present a production of George Frideric Handel’s opera ‘Julius Caesar’ on October 9, 10, and 13. Directed by Tristan Braun, the production features an international creative team and utilizes historical instruments from the ensemble ‘Canto Fiorito’. Lina Dambrauskaitė, a ‘Golden Stage Cross’ recipient, will perform the role of Cleopatra. Dambrauskaitė intends to portray the character as an intelligent and ambitious leader navigating political instability, instability and personal loss, rather than the traditional ‘femme fatale’ archetype. Looking ahead to November 24, the theatre is also scheduled to host a concert by countertenor Maayanas Lichtas. Described by international media as a ‘modern-day Farinelli’, Lichtas is an award-winning performer known for his Baroque and classical opera repertoire and his ability to engage younger audiences via social media.
