Musical tributes to composer Ennio Morricone have been held across Italy. A performance in Costigliole d’Asti at the Teatro Comunale—moved from the San Michele Amphitheater due to rain—featured narration by Chiara Buratti and vocals by soprano Anna Delfino, accompanied by Mauro Pavese and Giulio Laguzzi. Orchestral celebrations scheduled for August 18 include the Orchestra dei Colli Morenici performing ‘C’era una volta Morricone’ at the PalaDolomites, directed by Nicola Ferraresi. This program features themes from ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’, ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’, and ‘Cinema Paradiso’, with soprano Elena Camo. In Avezzano, the Orchestra da Camera IMA ‘Città di Avezzano’, directed by Francesco Fina, presents ‘Note del Cinema – Musica e Parole’ at the Cortile Vescovile, featuring soprano Marianna Volkova and narrator Paolo De Siena alongside works by Morricone, Scott Joplin, Astor Piazzolla, Henry Mancini, and Nicola Piovani. Further tributes are scheduled as part of summer festivals. On August 30, the Ensemble Bella Musica of the Mozarteum University Salzburg, directed by Stefan David Hummel, will perform at the Chigiana International Festival at the Teatro dei Rozzi in Siena, including Morricone’s ‘The Island’. On September 8, the Ensemble Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Giacomo Loprieno, will present ‘Alla scoperta di Morricone vol. 3’ at the Teatro Romano di Fiesole, exploring works such as ‘Gli Intoccabili’ and ‘La Califfa’ with soprano Anna Delfino and cellist Federico Covre. On September 20, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, conducted by Pietro Mianiti, performed at the Auditorium Rai ‘Arturo Toscanini’ in Torino as part of the ‘Five Cities for Morricone’ project. Looking ahead to 2026, a major event titled ‘We All Love Ennio Morricone’ is scheduled for December 1 at the Palazzo dello Sport in Rome. Rome, as part of a broader series of cultural and musical seasons spanning 2026 and 2027.
