Musical tributes to Vande Mataram in India

Overview

India has introduced new musical renditions of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ to mark milestones in its 150-year history.

In New Delhi, playback singer Hariharan and his family presented a premium vinyl edition of ‘The Anthem – Vande Mataram’ and a bespoke turntable to President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The project, conceived by Akhilesh Jha of the Centre for Gramophone and Allied Studies, featured vocal contributions from four generations of the Hariharan family.

Simultaneously, in Bengaluru, filmmaker Mahendra Munot unveiled a new audio rendition at Lok Bhavan. Attended by Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, this version features vocals by Ajay Warrior and music by A T Ravish. The rendition is designed to be easily accessible for schoolchildren to sing, aiming to foster patriotism among younger generations.
