Mutimurefu Prison escape in Zimbabwe

Overview

On August 7, 2026, two high-profile inmates, Tafadzwa Zimirenyika Janyure and James Masunda, escaped from the maximum-security Mutimurefu Prison in Masvingo, Zimbabwe. Janyure, a convicted murderer and rapist serving a life sentence plus 70 years, and Masunda, serving a 20-year sentence, reportedly breached the prison perimeter fence following court proceedings.
