Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has launched a new defense technology venture backed by Palantir Technologies CEO Alex Karp, who serves as the primary lead investor. The company intends to utilize battlefield insights from the war in Ukraine to develop advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and low-cost interceptor drones. Fedorov also serves as an advisor to Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetta. At the IT Arena 2026 conference in Lviv, Fedorov expanded this vision by announcing the ‘Army of Robots’ initiative. Designed as a private defense ecosystem rather than a single company, the project aims to accelerate the robotization of warfare to address personnel shortages and shift dangerous tasks from soldiers to machines. The initiative will invest in defense-tech startups and test solutions directly with the military to scale effective systems. Key objectives include developing humanoid robots for tasks such as reloading weapons, changing batteries, installing sensors, evacuating the wounded, and mine clearance. Fedorov aims to produce relatively simple, low-cost machines, potentially for as little as $10,000 each. He has set ambitious operational milestones: aiming for a humanoid robot to conduct its first lethal strike against an enemy soldier within six months, and executing the first coordinated assault involving both robots and drones without direct infantry involvement within one year. The project is currently recruiting engineers, technical specialists, proposal has met skepticism from some Ukrainian experts. Boris Drozhak of Rovertech noted that humanoid systems may be more expensive and a Chief Technology Officer. less stable than existing wheeled or tracked unmanned vehicles. Additionally, former Deputy Defense Minister Kateryna Chernokhrenko suggested that Ukraine’s immediate priorities should be cheaper cruise missiles and air defense systems rather than complex humanoid robots.
