Namibia is working to expand its export markets by leveraging China’s zero-tariff framework for eligible African products. This policy is intended to increase the competitiveness of Namibian beef, seafood, minerals, and agricultural goods in the Chinese market, supporting national efforts to diversify the economy. Agricultural cooperation has specifically expanded through new agreements allowing the export of table grapes and wild aquatic products to China. Collaborative efforts focus on mechanization, seed development, skills transfer, and the transition toward climate-smart, irrigation-driven production models to enhance food security. Recent efforts to deepen these economic relations included the China-Africa Cooperation Symposium held in Windhoek. Hosted by the Economic Association of Namibia, the Chinese Embassy, and the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), the event explored strategies for translating shared development priorities into commercial outcomes within Namibia and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Discussions centered on the China-Africa Economic Partnership for Shared Development (CADEPA) and how existing frameworks can drive industrialization and technology transfer. Julia Muetudhana, acting CEO of the NIPDB, noted that China’s industrial and technological expertise offers valuable lessons for partnerships aimed at job creation and increasing productive capacity. The symposium aimed to establish a pipeline of collaborative initiatives aligned with Namibia’s national development plans for local value addition and industrial growth.
