Actress Naomi Watts continues to receive industry recognition for her career and her role in the psychological thriller ‘The Housewife’. Following her receipt of the Donostia Award at the 74th San Sebastian International Film Festival, where she advocated for better representation of women in the industry, Watts was honored at the Zurich Film Festival on September 26, 2026. At the Zurich event, which featured a special screening of ‘The Housewife’, Watts was presented with the festival’s Golden Eye Award in recognition of her performance in the Ben Shirinian-directed drama. During a masterclass at the festival, Watts reflected on her professional journey, describing a decade of early career struggle marked by financial instability and the pressure to conform to industry expectations. She noted that she often felt compelled to reshape her personality to satisfy casting directors before her career was transformed by her collaboration with director David Lynch. ‘The Housewife’ previously debuted at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Based on a true story, the film stars Watts as Hermine Ryan, an immigrant housewife in 1964 Queens whose life unravels as she becomes the subject of an investigation into past ties to Nazism. While critics have praised Watts’s portrayal of a woman maintaining a facade of domestic perfection, some reviews noted that the film’s procedural elements occasionally felt ‘underpowered or heavy-handed’.
