Torino negotiations for Jens Cajuste shift to Malaga loan

Overview

In mid-July 2026, Napoli announced its willingness to sell Swedish midfielder Jens Cajuste for an estimated €5-6 million. While Genoa initially emerged as a leading suitor, interest shifted toward Torino by early August 2026.

Torino's sporting director, Gianluca Petrachi, entered negotiations to secure the 27-year-old, who recently completed a loan spell at Ipswich Town. Napoli confirmed Cajuste is not in its technical plans, having excluded him from pre-season training camps in Dimaro and Castel di Sangro. To facilitate the move, Torino planned to offload players such as Ivan Ilic and Tino Anjorin to free up midfield slots.

Negotiations between the clubs faced hurdles regarding the deal's structure. While Torino sought a loan with an option to buy, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis reportedly preferred immediate monetization, potentially requiring an obligation to buy based on specific conditions.

By late August 2026, the situation shifted away from Torino. Málaga CF reached an agreement to sign Cajuste on loan from Napoli. The deal is structured as a free loan for the Spanish club and includes a non-mandatory buyout option set at €8 million. Malaga intended to use the Swedish international to reinforce their defensive pivot role.

On August 31, 2026, Málaga CF officially completed the signing of the 27-year-old midfielder. Cajuste, who has previously played for Stade Reims and Ipswich Town, passed his medical examinations at La Rosaleda to finalize the move. His arrival coincided with the conclusion of the summer transfer window, which also saw significant activity across Spanish and Italian leagues.
