Napoli tactical shifts and player updates under Allegri

Napoli is undergoing tactical adjustments under manager Massimiliano Allegri following a slow start to the season. The team has recorded three losses in their first six matches, leaving them with seven points. Despite these results, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis maintains full confidence in Allegri, viewing the current international break as a potential turning point.

Allegri is evaluating structural changes to navigate an intense upcoming schedule of nine matches in 25 days across Serie A and the Champions League. While previously considering a 4-2-3-1, the manager is now weighing a shift to a 3-5-2 formation. This proposed change aims to provide more midfield stability to support striker Rasmus Højlund and Kevin De Bruyne, while potentially maximizing the utility of players such as Costantino Favasuli and Lorenzo Lucca.

Performance analysis has highlighted a trend of declining pressing intensity, which may be contributing to the team’s difficulty in maintaining leads. Amidst these shifts, Stanislav Lobotka remains an indispensable figure in the midfield.

Player fitness remains a factor as David Neres works to regain full physical condition, while Noa Lang seeks to regain momentum. Napoli is scheduled to face Frosinone on October 10, 2026, followed by a Champions League fixture against Villarreal.
