The Sicilian town of Naro, in the province of Agrigento, has launched a one-euro house program designed to combat population decline and promote urban regeneration. The initiative offers abandoned or dilapidated properties at a symbolic price to revitalize the historic center. To participate, buyers—including Italian and foreign nationals, companies, or foundations—must use the properties as primary residences, second homes, guest houses, or for commercial purposes. Participants are required to submit restoration plans to the municipality and must demonstrate the financial capacity to complete necessary renovations within specific timeframes. Most properties require extensive work to meet safety and local planning standards, often with a deadline of approximately three years to complete renovations.
