To mark 80 years of central banking, the National Bank of North Macedonia has launched several public engagement initiatives. In late October 2026, the bank introduced a video contest titled ‘What the National Bank Means to Me?’ which encourages citizens, particularly young people, to submit creative works regarding the role of the central bank, including the stability of the denar, exchange rates, and the security of the banking system. The contest offers a cash prize of 60,000 denars for the best original work. Following this, the bank organized a series of activities from October 28 to November 5 to observe World Savings Day and Financial Literacy Days. These efforts include savings workshops, educational lectures for students, a quiz, and a forum on the importance of saving. The bank also scheduled a virtual event on ‘Gender Financial Inclusion’ and partnered with the World Bank to release an educational video concerning SEPA cross-border payments. During a formal ceremony held at the National Bank Museum to celebrate the 80th anniversary, high-ranking officials including President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, and Speaker of the Assembly Afrim Gashi attended. President Siljanovska-Davkova addressed the institution’s role in establishing monetary sovereignty in 1991, emphasizing that monetary and financial stability constitute a ‘public good’ that benefits society. She noted that price stability directly impacts living standards and the security of family budgets. Governor Trajko Slaveski also addressed the assembly, stating that trust is the most valuable capital for a central bank and underscoring the importance of clear decision-making. The ceremony included a documentary film chronicling the institution’s eight decades of evolution.
