Efforts to expand the fig industry in Nazilli are progressing through infrastructure development and strategic export planning. The Nazilli Local Products Cooperative has commenced construction on a specialized industrial site in the Arslanlı neighborhood. This project is intended to establish the region as a global trade hub and is expected to include cold storage, laboratories, and 58 shops, with the potential to create 2,000 jobs. As the 2026-2027 dried fig purchasing season begins, the Nazilli Chamber of Commerce is focusing on increasing added value through market diversification. Following a previous season that saw 40,000 tons of dried figs exported—primarily to Germany and France—officials are now targeting new markets in the United States, Japan, and the Far East. The strategy involves promoting figs as versatile ingredients for the baking and pastry industries. Significant progress has been made regarding the Local Products Center (Yerli Ürünler Merkezi) project. Following developmental stages initiated in 2019, the tender process for two parcels of the project has concluded with a total contract value of 873.9 million TL. Egesit İnşaat secured these contracts, with bids of 428.9 million TL for the first stage and 445 million TL for the second. Concurrently, political developments within the Nazilli Commodity Exchange (NTB) have highlighted producer concerns. Presidential candidate Birkan Şen has pledged to advocate more actively for fig producers facing rising costs for labor, fuel, fertilizer, and pesticides. Şen stated the exchange must act as a bridge between stakeholders and advocate for the sector’s needs in Ankara to ensure producers receive fair value.
