As the 2026–27 NBA season approaches, focus has shifted from fantasy basketball draft strategies and roster movements to specific player health and individual team preparations. Early reports highlighted significant player movements, such as Giannis Antetokounmpo joining the Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers acquiring Jaylen Brown and LeBron James. Fantasy analysts identified Victor Wembanyama, Nikola Jokić, Luka Dončić, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as top draft contenders. More recent developments include health concerns for the Golden State Warriors, as Kristaps Porzingis is expected to miss the start of the season indefinitely due to an undisclosed issue. Additionally, individual players are preparing for new roles or improved performance, including Hugo Gonzalez in Boston, Nikola Jovic in Miami, and Tidjane Salaun in Charlotte. With the season scheduled to begin on October 20, featuring opening matchups such as Detroit vs. Boston and New York vs. Philadelphia, betting markets and predictions have emerged. Victor Wembanyama is currently the favorite for the MVP award, followed by contenders Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Dončić. Nikola Jokić is a leading candidate for assists and rebounds, while Dončić is the frontrunner for the scoring title. Darko Rajaković is noted as a top favorite for Coach of the Year. Regarding team success, the Oklahoma City Thunder is a favorite for the championship title. The season will also feature high-profile programming, including NBA Christmas Day games. Looking ahead to potential breakouts, Morez Johnson Jr. of the Dallas Mavericks is highlighted as a candidate to become a rookie on an All-Defensive team. Other players poised for significant growth include Stephon Castle of the San Antonio Spurs, following the team’s recent NBA Finals run, and Brandin Podziemski of the Golden State Warriors, who is expected to take on a larger role following a contract extension and injuries to teammates.
