NEC has expanded its involvement in advanced artificial intelligence applications, moving from cybersecurity defense to organizational automation. In late July 2026, the company partnered with the Cyber Defense Institute to launch “MITRE ‘MITRE Engage in a Box.” Box.’ This three-year training program is designed to teach active cyber-defense techniques to Japanese defense, police, and critical-infrastructure personnel to combat rising AI-generated deep-fake phishing attacks. By August 2026, NEC transitioned toward internal AI integration by establishing a ‘Corporate AI Workforce Division.’ This unit is staffed entirely by autonomous AI agents organized into a four-tier hierarchy. hierarchy consisting of an AI department head, an AI board performing CxO functions, AI managers, and AI employees. In this structure, AI managers generate and assign specific AI employees to meet internal business needs. These agents are onboarded with NEC’s code of conduct and possess the ability to self-learn to address skill gaps. Utilizing a digital twin system known as the ‘AI Integrated Management Cockpit’ for real-time oversight, the division has demonstrated the ability to reduce management analysis analysis, simulations, and risk detection time to approximately one-seventh of previous levels, though humans retain levels. While AI agents execute tasks and perform complex technical analyses, human employees maintain responsibility for final evaluation, quality control, and high-level governance governance. NEC intends to eventually commercialize the methodologies and complex problem-solving. management solutions developed through this initiative.
