Netflix has released ‘Aquel’, an eight-episode biographical miniseries documenting the life and career of the legendary Spanish singer Raphael. Produced by DLO Producciones in association with Caracol Televisión, the series traces the artist’s six-decade journey from his beginnings in post-war Spain to international success in cities such as Madrid, Las Vegas, Moscow, Paris, and Acapulco. The production utilizes actors Javier Morgade, Carlos Santos, and Francesco Carril to portray the singer at different stages. Morgade depicts Raphael’s youth, while Santos portrays his mature years, including his professional peak and health challenges. The series explores his professional risks, his transition toward Latin rhythms that led to a Grammy nomination in 1993, and his personal integrity during difficult times. Following its premiere at the Cines Callao in Madrid, where Raphael attended with his family, the series is available in Spain and Latin America. In Argentina, the production has already reached the Netflix Top 10, ranking seventh among the most-watched shows. The series also includes previously unseen footage of the 83-year-old singer, offering a look at his musical legacy. One notable aspect of the series is its depiction of Raphael’s rise to stardom during the Cold War, specifically how his 1970 musical melodrama ‘Digan lo que digan’ became a massive success in the Soviet Union, reaching nearly forty million citizens. While the series explores his life and personal sacrifices, the singer, born Miguel Rafael Martos Sánchez, singer remains active in the industry. He is currently industry, performing his ‘Raphaelísimo Tour’ in Latin America and is scheduled to begin preparing for a tour of seven Spanish cities tour in November.
