Netflix and Shondaland have announced a new limited series spin-off within the ‘Bridgerton’ franchise. The prequel will focus on the early life and romance of Lady Violet Bridgerton and Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, providing context for the family history prior to the main series. Following the precedent set by ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’, the production will involve Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini as showrunners and executive producers. Tom Verica is set to direct and serve as an executive producer, while Betsy Beers will also participate as an executive producer. While initial reports suggested the series might draw from the novella ‘Violet in Bloom’ by Julia Quinn, the exact nature of the adaptation remains unconfirmed. Recent updates indicate the series is expected to draw inspiration from the 2013 novella, which explores Violet’s upbringing in the Ledger mansion and her romance with Edmund. This prequel aims to explore the early relationship of the family matriarch, which serves as a “pivotal element of the original series’ emotional foundation.” Regarding casting, actress Arséma Thomas has confirmed she will reprise her role as a young Lady Danbury. However, Netflix has not yet released a definitive title, casting details for the lead roles of young Violet and Edmund, or a premiere date. Separately, production is underway for the fifth season of the original ‘Bridgerton’ series, which is expected to feature Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling with a scheduled release window in 2027.
