Netflix has announced a seven-part limited series adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel, ‘East of Eden’. Set in California’s Salinas Valley, the production follows the multigenerational Trask family saga, exploring themes of love, betrayal, and the struggle between good and evil. The series is written by Zoe Kazan, who also serves as co-showrunner alongside Jeb Stuart. Kazan, the granddaughter of director Elia Kazan, aims to provide a more comprehensive exploration of the source material than previous adaptations. The drama is set to span several decades, framed by the American Civil War and World War I. I, and is inspired by the biblical story of Cain and Abel. Florence Pugh stars as the manipulative antihero Cathy ~~Ames.~~ Ames and also serves as an executive producer. The cast includes Christopher Abbott as Adam Trask, Mike Faist as Charles Trask, Joseph Zada as Cal Trask, and Joe Anders as Aron Trask. Other featured actors include Tracy Letts as Cyrus Trask, Martha Plimpton as Faye, Ciarán Hinds as Samuel Hamilton, and Hoon Lee. Following the release of official images, Netflix has ~~now~~ released a ~~full~~ full-length trailer for the series. Garth Davis will direct the first four episodes, while Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre will direct episodes five through seven. The series is scheduled to premiere on October 1, 2026.
