Netflix has announced a three-part docuseries, including titles such as ‘The One About Matthew Perry’, scheduled to premiere on October 27, 2026. Directed by Emmy winner Mary Robertson and produced by Maxine Productions, the series explores the life and career of the late ‘Friends’ star, who passed away in October 2023 at age 54 due to an accidental ketamine overdose. The documentary will utilize previously unreleased personal archives from the Perry family, including childhood footage, private photographs, and unreleased audio interviews. A central figure is the actor’s sister, psychotherapist Mia Perry Bowick, who aims to present her brother as a “whole person”. The series is expected to address both his professional success and his personal vulnerabilities, including his well-documented struggles with addiction. New details indicate the scale of his battle with substance abuse, noting that Perry reportedly spent over seven million US dollars attempting to achieve sobriety. In reflections shared ahead of the release, Bowick recounted an emotional moment during Perry’s funeral where she felt his presence, which prompted an unexpected bout of laughter during the solemn ceremony. While previous reports indicated the ‘Friends’ cast declined to participate in the documentary, Bowick noted that Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc arrived together to pay their respects at the funeral, offering her collective embraces. Bowick also shared reflections on Perry’s addiction battles, including a memory from 2001 when she visited him during rehabilitation, describing him as the “most special person on the planet.” ~~The series premiere~~ In discussions regarding the docuseries, Bowick reflected on ~~October 27 falls one day before~~ the ~~third anniversary~~ bittersweet experience of watching Perry film the ~~actor’s death.~~ 2001 wedding scene between Chandler Bing and Monica Geller, noting that while the scene depicted a happy milestone, the family was acutely aware of the severity of his addiction at the time.
