The Netflix sequel series to ‘A Different World’ premiered on September 24, 2026, returning viewers to the fictional Hillman College. The ten-episode production follows a new generation of students, featuring original characters in supporting roles as they navigate adulthood. Maleah Joi Moon stars as Deborah Wayne—the daughter of original characters Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne—leading an ensemble that includes Shaquille Johnson, Kojo Achebe, Rashida, Amir, Hazel, Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, Kennedi Reece, and Chibuikem Uche. A central plot point involves Ellington, a teaching assistant and love interest for Deborah, who is revealed to be the son of Denise Huxtable, creating a narrative link to ‘The Cosby Show’ legacy. Following its successful debut, which saw the show reach the #4 spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV list and garner 4.2 million views, Netflix has officially renewed the dramedy for a second season. The upcoming sophomore season is expected to follow Deborah and her classmates as they return to campus, exploring identity, new relationships, and the consequences of past decisions. Creator and showrunner Felicia Pride and executive producer Debbie Allen expressed excitement regarding the renewal, noting the show’s ability to resonate across generations. Amidst the renewal, cast members have addressed speculation regarding the return of Lisa Bonet as Denise Huxtable. While the character was heard on a phone call during the first season, Cree Summer, reprising her role as Freddie Brooks, and Jasmine Guy have suggested that Bonet’s return remains uncertain, noting that the actress appears to have chosen a different path in life.
