Netflix released the fifth season of the Israeli drama ‘Fauda’ on September 8, 2026. The eleven-episode season, filmed in Israel and Hungary, shifts its narrative focus toward the trauma and psychological consequences of the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks. Set two years after those events, the season follows retired operative Doron Kavillio, played by Lior Raz, as he struggles with PTSD and is drawn into a dangerous undercover operation involving a Hamas operative in France. A notable shift in this installment is the setting, with a portion of the action moving to Marseille. Creators Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff, both of whom have backgrounds in the elite Duvdevan unit, reformulated the story to reflect the reality of the attacks, which they noted were “far more terrifying than any previous plotlines had imagined.” Newer details regarding the narrative reveal a focus on themes of memory and the cycle of blood vengeance. The plot includes Eli, a former special forces commander seeking retribution after losing his family in the attacks, alongside a Bedouin character named Salem. The series incorporates documentary-style depictions of real-world events, such as attacks on Israeli border communities and the Nova music festival. Additionally, the production features Mélanie Laurent in a significant role as a character who has undergone radicalization. By late September, the season reached its highest-ever streaming position, ranking number four among non-English language series globally. It has achieved significant viewership milestones, reaching the number one position in both Israel and Lebanon, and performing strongly across the Middle East, including Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. The season garnered 2.1 million views in its first week. Recent analysis highlights the series' evolution from a suspenseful drama into a reflection of a traumatized nation. Rather than focusing on overt violence, the narrative emphasizes the psychological toll of the conflict through memory and absence. Co-creator Avi Issacharoff noted that the series aims for realism over “superhero tropes,” depicting the protagonist as a figure who is repeatedly knocked down but continues to fight back.
