Netflix is preparing for the September 24 release of ‘My Sad Dead’ (also titled ‘Mi triste muerto’ or ‘Mis muertos tristes’), a four-part psychological horror miniseries directed by Pablo Larraín. Based on the stories of Argentine author Mariana Enriquez, the series stars Mercedes Morán as Ema, a retired doctor who can communicate with the deceased. The plot is driven by the death of Ema’s mother and the murder of three teenagers in the Piedrabuena neighborhood, creating a phenomenon that affects the local water supply and blurs the boundary between the living and the dead. The narrative tension escalates when the arrival of Ema’s niece, Julie (played by Dolores Fonzi), causes her individual connection to the deceased to expand into a collective experience affecting the entire community. The adaptation draws from several of Enríquez’s works, including ‘Julie’, ‘Cuando hablábamos con los muertos’, and ‘Un lugar soleado para gente sombría’.
