Netflix has commenced the weekly release of the second and third stages of the anime series ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run’, beginning September 25, 2026. This release follows a single 47-minute special episode released in March. This block of episodes is being distributed in a ‘split-cour’ format, consisting of 11 episodes released every Friday. The narrative follows protagonists Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli during a cross-country horse race in 1890s North America. The newly released segments cover the characters' journey through the ‘Devil’s Palm’ in the Arizona desert and into the Rocky Mountains. Recent previews for the second episode, ‘The Sheriff’s Request to Mountain Tim’, introduce the character Mountain Tim as the protagonists navigate a murder case during the race. The production, handled by David Production with music by Yugo Kanno, features the opening theme ‘SPIN’ by the band Kroi and the ending theme ‘Shinu ka Ikiru ka’ (also referred to as ‘Dead or Alive’) by Yuki Chiba. However, the series has faced controversy regarding the ending theme, ‘Shinu ka Ikiru ka’. While written by Yuki Chiba, the music was composed and produced by Lukasz Gottwald, known as Dr. Luke. Fans have expressed dissatisfaction with the musical direction, noting it deviates from the franchise’s tradition of using established Western pop songs. Additionally, some viewers have called for the song to be replaced due to the producer’s past legal controversies involving allegations of misconduct.
