Netflix has expanded its content offerings with a focus on Scandinavian thrillers and true crime series. Initial releases included the Swedish series ‘Blood Sacrifice’, which follows a detective investigating murders in Stockholm, and the Danish thriller ‘The Secret Woman’, centered on a woman discovering her true identity in Norway. The platform also released ‘The Death of the Pastor’s Wife’, a true crime miniseries regarding the death of Mica Miller in North Carolina. Netflix has announced the upcoming release of ‘A Couple of Lies’ (original title ‘Bytet’), a four-episode Swedish psychological thriller miniseries scheduled to premiere on October 30. Based on the bestselling crime novel by Stefan Ahnhem, the series is directed by Kasper Barfod and adapted by Amanda Hogberg and Axel Stjerne. The plot follows two couples, Helene and Karl from the Stockholm archipelago and Scarlet and Adam from Sicily, who swap homes to escape daily routines. The narrative is described as a dark descent into “surveillance, manipulation, and distrust” as the participants discover unsettling secrets in their temporary residences. The cast includes Emma Appleton, Fares Fares, Frida Gustavson, and Jakob Oftebro. Recent additions to the platform’s Nordic crime lineup include a five-episode version of ‘Blood Sacrifice’, a Swedish thriller created by George Kay. This iteration follows a father and son who must overcome years of resentment to catch a killer targeting police officers, starring Peter Andersson and Jakob Oftebro. Additionally, the Norwegian mini-series ‘Petits meurtres entre voisins’ (Small Murders Between Neighbors) has been added. Adapted from Saskia Noort’s 2013 novel, the seven-episode series follows a woman named Karen in Bergen who discovers a community built on lies following a fatal fire at a luxury villa.
