The agricultural market in the Netherlands has experienced fluctuations in both produce and feed prices. In late August, the onion market saw supply and pricing shifts influenced by weather patterns. While rainfall facilitated harvesting after a heatwave, there was a noted scarcity of large-sized onions. Transaction prices for yellow seed onions were reported between €25 and €35 per 100 kg, while red onions ranged from €26 to €37.50. By the end of August, broader commodity trends showed divergent movements. Animal feed prices rose, with maize kernel mash and beef steer steer mash seeing notable increases. In the fresh produce sector, strawberry prices decreased significantly, whereas blueberry prices rose by an average of €0.23 to €3.94. Other items, such as broccoli, cucumbers, mango, and greenhouse tomatoes, remained relatively stable. By mid-September, retail trends in the Netherlands showed further shifts. Broccoli prices decreased by 11.6%, falling from an average of €1.28 to €1.13 per 500 grams, a change driven by promotions at retailers such as Albert Heijn and Plus. Blueberries also saw a price decrease of an average of €0.26, reaching €3.93 per 300 grams. In contrast to previous trends, strawberries were the only product to experience a price increase, rising from €3.49 to €3.59. Regarding the onion sector, export volumes at the end of August remained comparable to the previous year despite a significantly reduced harvest. Production was expected to reach between 1.2 and 1.3 million tons, down from over 1.7 million tons in the prior year.
