In July 2026, activists in Oldebroek demonstrated against a municipal prohibition on displaying the rainbow flag and other LGBTQI+ measures, signaling local resistance to restrictive policies. Later that month, LGBT+ organisations across the Netherlands expanded their advocacy by negotiating 119 new “Rainbow Agreements” with municipal parties ahead of local elections.
