Nevada Governor Lombardo campaign controversy

In July, body‑camera footage of Governor Joe Lombardo’s May traffic stop near the Las Vegas Strip was released, showing an officer let him go without a citation and prompting criticism from the Nevada Democratic Party and the ACLU over police discretion and privilege.

By early August, Lombardo shifted his campaign messaging to economic issues, emphasizing Nevada’s inability to control inflation, defending his vetoes of paid‑family‑leave, free‑meal, prescription‑drug‑pricing and tenant‑protection bills, and aligning with former President Donald Trump at a Las Vegas event.

On August 4, he reiterated that the state has little power to lower grocery prices or other household costs, dismissing such promises as “bullshit.” He highlighted nearly 100,000 new jobs, $6 billion in private investment and more than $1 billion earmarked for attainable housing, though critics noted the plan would cover only about 5,000 of the roughly 80,000 affordable units needed. Trump again praised Nevada Republicans, while Lombardo warned Democrats were pushing socialism. The governor is seeking reelection against Democratic Attorney General Aaron Ford in one of the nation’s most competitive gubernatorial races, with affordability expected to dominate the contest.
